The focus of mathematics in 2017 is the continued explicit emphasis on teaching the content and proficiencies of the Western Australian Curriculum: Mathematics through structured numeracy blocks and evidence based pedagogy. Students will continue to learn ways in which to use their ideas about number and algebra, measurement and geometry, statistics and probability to understand, problem solve, reason and develop fluency of mathematical content and assist their learning across the curriculum. Student’s basic fact knowledge and automaticity will be a key focus in student learning. This year, students will also continue to develop their worded problem solving abilities using schemas and problem solving whole school strategies.

Newborough Primary School uses Mathletics, an online student resource, each year to improve mathematical skills. Students are provided with a password which then allows the student 24 hour access, 7 days per week. Website - Research has proven the use of Mathletics to improve student’s mathematical attainment.
