With one of the Western Australian Department of Education’s 2017 focus being on the STEM learning areas (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), science is again one of the priority areas at Newborough Primary School in 2017. The Primary Connections Science program will be used as one of the main programs amongst others to help increase students curiosity and willingness to explore in science, ask questions about and speculate on the changing world in which they live. Students will be provided with the opportunity to learn to investigate, understand and communicate about the nature of living things, of the Earth and its place in the cosmos, and of the physical and chemical processes that explain the behaviour of all material things. Students will continue to develop their ability to solve problems and make informed, evidence-based decisions on investigations and through the three science strands of Science Inquiry Skills, Science Understandings and Science as a Human Endeavour. In Term 3 this year, Newborough Primary School will be focusing on Science Week with assorted activities and projects linked to the 2017 Science Week topic of “Future Earth” integrating the other STEM topics.
